Character Foil
The spotlight is not hers to have
She is not particularly Smart, Pretty, Funny, Or even Kind
Their first instinct is to disagree
But a half-hearted lie only leads to half a heartbreak
Because deep down the other half has always known
She is but an extra in their story
Just accomplished enough to keep the editor satisfied
Yet that red pen looms, looms, looms.
Because when the curtain falls it doesn't matter what happens to her
There is no one watching her story unfold
There will be no meet cute
There will be no award acceptance speech
There will be no climax
Even so, she wishes to cast shadows.
