The Other Side
Stars.
Shining, shooting, shimmering.
Lighting up the dark blue night sky with their mesmerizing glow.
Like peep holes of a door,
They reveal another side, the lovelier side, the peaceful side of the world.
War, poverty, pollution, injustice
We’re trapped in a never ending nightmare that we call Earth.
While the stars, gently floating above our heads, are amused by the show we cast for them,
Laughing at us as we try so hard to reach out for them, to hold them in our grasp forever,
Yet fail.
Witnessing our tears, our screams, our cries for help
And all they do is twinkle back at us,
Never losing their pride,
Never losing their joy,
Never losing their glory.
In moments of fear and frustration,
We turn toward the sky, toward the stars.
Staring at their beauty to escape our thoughts,
Yearning for them to comfort us in times of distress.
We pray in front of them for hope and peace,
For the things in our lives to improve.
But they just turn their heads, apathetically
Showing no sympathy for the people they shine their bright light upon.
Stars.
Shining, shooting, shimmering.
Illuminating the world, yet we’re still trapped in the dark.

For as long as humankind has existed, the stars have borne witness to our struggles, and still nothing has changed. I hope that one day, the world will truly be at peace, just like the stars that surround us.
