Three Friends
One.
He seems nice, but he’s shy
His hands are slightly t r e m b l i n g––
Embarking on that endless scroll for about an hour,
With the occasional smile from time to time.
Desperate to leave, with nothing to do.
He sighs––as if to repent his boredom,
but never attempts to begin a conversation
Two.
She is parasocial. She avoids socialization.
Well in her own way, she does, I suppose.
Constantly on her phone, she always finds something to do–
Texting, TikTok, social media, and texting again.
She constantly sighs deep laments of dissatisfaction––
As if to let others know of her incontements.
But she never does really reaches out to anyone,
For she’s a busy person on her busy phone,
scrunched up with her head on her chin.
Three.
She is different from the first two.
There is a gleam of light in her eyes–
A passion for her works, I suppose.
She is never distracted from her project,
In fact, she is happy with it.
She continues to considerately turn her head,
Smiling, and focused.
Detailing her work in every way—
Smiling and happy, evermore.
In some ways, we are all the same.
But some are more passionate than others,
Some are more distracted than others.
But in the end, we all have friends,
Whether they’re with us or not,
Whether they’re physical or virtual.
And we do all have our passions,
They’re just harder to see at times.
