One of the greatest legends the world had ever seen

Wanted the world to change his brothers & sisters free

Many have forgotten this legend and all of his good deeds

The legend I’m referring to is Martin Luther King.

There once was just a man from Atlanta, Georgia

Who believed he could change the change the course of history

Who knew the black race didn’t deserve any trauma

 And the answer to equality shouldn’t stay a mystery

The words “I have a dream” started a journey that would never end

And to this day, I don’t believe it ever will

Martin always said the justice system wasn’t our friend

The police are here to protect and serve, but all they’ve done is kill

Trayvon Martin, 17 years old, killed by George Zimmerman

A man who only saw Trayvon as an “up to no good” black man

Shot Trayvon at close range because he thought he had a weapon

But all that Martin had was a bag of Skittles in hand

I’m sure the words “I can’t breathe” will definitely ring a bell

George Floyd, 46 years old, killed from a knee to his neck

May 25th, 5 days before my birthday, I can’t help but dwell

And lay in my bed and sulk with the thought that that could’ve been me

But there was a time before all the fatal, devastating violence

A time where police helped instead of harmed

There will be a day where justice will be served

And that day is soon so don’t be alarmed

Martin Luther King said “Free at last! Free at last!”

“Thank God almighty, we are free at last.”
