i want it all
i want it all
what is happiness without tears but pure hate?
what is joy without woe but a life with no fate?
what is life without death but an endless abode?
what are highs without lows but a straight road?
so give me your love, but give me your pain, too.
give me your heart, but give me your brain, too.
give me all that is you and all that isn’t
because i want it all
and this goes without saying
that life is just another bridge we cross,
another door we pass,
just another strange, blurry reflection in the glass
but i want it all
i want to live and i want to die
i want to sing and i want to cry
i want to dance and then fall
and then maybe i’ll get up
i want to go on and live, but i don’t want a perfect life
or a carefree life, i want a good life
and if good can’t be good without some bad, then give me the bad
because bad doesn’t hold anything against me
and maybe i’ll find love, one day
and maybe i won’t
and maybe i’ll leave on a bed surrounded by friends
and maybe i won’t
but when i do leave i want to be able to say
“i lived”
“i lived it all”

This poem highlights the duality of the lived experience: namely, that there is no joy without some sadness.
