What I Would Give
What I would give
for a nap after a day on the river,
cheeks rosy and hot
kissed by the sun.
To wake up at 9:30
with not one ounce of urgency in my body.
Only restricted by my own wishes,
the day ahead just as busy or relaxed as I choose.
For the month of July to come
accompanied by the commotion of fairs, concerts, and music.
Dancing effortlessly into the late hours of the night
without a worry in the world.
To drive into the sunset with no destination,
creating the best unexpected memories
that will last a lifetime.
The ones that I will reminisce about
as I am rocking in my creaking wooden chair at 80 years old.
Although not my intention to wish my life away,
I want nothing more than the weightless days of heat to come.
I will choose to cherish each present day –
thinking about what I would give for it to be summer.
