Another year passes
Another wrinkle seems to form
A new graying hair sprouts out from under layers of hair
Birthdays seem to get grimmer as the age grows higher
No more for the need of gathering, but instead a day of mourn
Everytime the day is filled with celebration through a rose colored pane
Speckled glitter and small brilliant pieces of colorful confetti cover the truth for a while,
But they too will soon fall to the floor.
Glitter shines like the sun,
But sunshine won’t last forever
The moon must return.
All that’s left is the truth of confetti and glitters; a mess left to be worried for.
As each year goes by the glitter falls lower and lower to the ground.
At the beginning, a small child has not a worry in the world seeing just bright colors
As they grow into a big kid
But slowly as gravity tugs on the confetti, a sense of worry comes in waves
Shock, anxiety, anger
Terror fills them, time is ending
Fear is the enemy, it distracts you with glitter
You’re running out of time until the mess is made
The glitter will eventually hit the floor
The mess is coming
Some people may feel relief, feeling that the beautiful shimmer of the glitter was wonderful
Others realize they spent so much time being scared for the end, that when the end came, time had been wasted
Confetti is meant to be enjoyed

The author's comments:

I feel that this is very relatable, especially for teens. I know a lot of people, including me, that struggle with the idea of aging and growing up. I think this could help to put things into perspective.
