Watermelon Seeds
You told me watermelon seeds grow in my stomach.
That after I eat them, they sprout roots in my guts.
You told me they will make me sick.
But instead, it made me sick with fear.
You told me after you saw the panic in my eyes,
Watermelon seeds are super salutary!
You told me that you were just joking,
Watermelons won’t make you wince
You told me to lighten up.
I was seven. A seven-year-old afraid of the world.
You told me there’s nothing to be scared of.
I stopped listening to you a while ago.
