Almost a Butterfly
Today I was a butterfly
Or I wished that I was
Because truly I was more like a moth
And the world a lightbulb
It was warm and bright
And somehow it just felt right
So I gave in to the hands of it’s mercy
Little did I know
it wouldn't have any
The longer I flew around the dazzling ball of light
The more my bones ached with exhaustion
As day turned to night the wind grew cold and my lungs got tight
My wings flapped in the frozen air until
They snapped
And there I lie
On the cold pavement of the sidewalk
A helpless grieving body
Left to die
And all I think is
Today I was almost a butterfly
