I enjoy being in your company,

Your soft delicate grass against my feet,

Your clean air I breathe into my lungs,

Your salty water I taste in my mouth.

It infuriates me when your air isn't clean,

Your grass isn't fluffy to the touch,

Your water is infested with plastics.

This is why I’ve protected you,

Why I’ve given you a hand.

It’s not your fault after all

that you’re this way.

It’s the people you’ve so graciously invited in.

The unkind house guests that don’t leave their shoes at the front door,

Or say thank you for the hospitality you’ve provided.

Hence why I decided to change.

I have un-conformed from their ways,

I have not let my self-confidence affect me,

And I have certainly not been an unkind guest.

Protecting me is what makes you best.

More should learn from you,

After all, I’m what helps them survive

What gives them shelter?

What teaches them the most valuable lessons in life?

However, I’m under-appreciated

without any concern coming my way.

You who take concern are those who are the most valuable

They are not selfish or unaware

They do not conform to those around them

Rather they do what is greatest in their heart

They help me survive

In return, I will help them

I will show them true beauty

True life

True meaning

By showing them my outer shell

By spending time with me they will find their true selves

They will not regret their choice

for they will learn that regret is just a waste of time

And that I’m the answer they’ve been searching for

-earth

I’m writing this now to say thank you

I appreciate what you’ve done for me

You’ve taught me to not worry about their opposition

Their opinions

Their outstanding lack of self-confidence

I’ve appreciated becoming closer to you

Seeing your beauty in a new light.

In clarity.

You’ve taught me more about myself than I could have ever imagined

I’m not as selfish or hopeless as I thought

I  have found a larger passion and purpose in life

Other than the traditional working man.

Do not worry I will not forget you now,

I will work even harder for you,

I will get others to find themselves in order for them to find you,

And I will not be an unkind house guest.

I wrote this piece to highlight the disrespect we have for our environment. I hope to inspire people to work harder on protecting and sustaining the beautiful world we live in.
