Winter Sunshine
The world is dark,
dark as winter before snow.
Not close enough to a city
to look pretty, lit up with lights.
Imagine daylight
overpowering darkness
as the sun peeks over cliffs of houses.
Shades of the wooden fence
guarding the park,
darker grooves built-in.
Rain and snow,
years of weathering.
Wildflowers fences enclose
vibrant hues,
of yellows and oranges,
memories of summer.
Dark again,
waiting on sunshine in winter,
stuck
between deep purples and pinks,
of late fall
looking for sunshine in winter.
