Fallen Leaf of the Past

fiery flashing bolts
lit up the sky
to the caresses of the wind,
to the scratches of the rake.
a gentle breeze creeped
within the crevices yet not covered
by the sounds of its soothing strokes
by the flames of its violent protest
I stood apart from the crowd,
clutching a fallen leaf -
it detached from its buoyant mast
I detached from my distant past
