(Dis)placement
Like lamps during an earthquake, unsteady, we sway
Rattled, uncomfortable, out of place
We fall off tables and onto dust
Unplugged, without light, we are blind in our trust
This is your new home, they say
And we gawk, but they don’t, knowing our fate
We are debris swept into a dustpan
Losing the strength that once helped us stand
This is our new home, where families will die
And bleed only to stare at barbed wires strung high
