Death of a Hundred Butterflies
Do you notice how their wings flap under the golden sun
Let them be innocuous and pretty
As they perish, where do these insects bury their bodies
In what ways do they drop flat on the ground
Melt into the soil
Wings ingrain into the dirt
Decaying then slowly absorbed by the earth
We wonder where they go
If their species is melancholy, irate, or unemotional
Die a beautiful but fleeting death
No, but my question is not really about butterflies
Where do our people go after they die
Die a miserable or peaceful death
Do we all become ghosts that only live in the stories told by our ancestors
Do the descended ones send messages into our dreams
Where can I learn about them
The cultural tradition and everything
Where’s your answer
because I am not asking a question at all
