Dear Me,

Someone once told you that you’re on the back burner.

That you will never be in the first place, no matter how hard you try.

Why bother living if it means that you will never be skinny enough, pretty enough, strong enough, or enough of a person to deserve to live?

That's just because you have a perfect life, caring parents, great friends, and a whole support system waiting to lift you up if you’re crumbling.

Just because your life isn’t exactly a struggle, doesn’t mean that your feelings and problems aren’t real. You’re an all-or-nothing type of girl.

Meaning that either you’re so depressed it's unbearable, or so happy that you can tackle the world.

People love you and have shown that time and time again.

But just because there aren’t stressors adding to your troubles, does not diminish the size of your feelings.

You are strong and have lived despite the pure ache of not wanting to.

You have climbed above the deep black hole that you had once fallen in.

Maybe life may feel like hell, but eventually, that rotten existence will form into heaven.

Life should be about more than just survival, making the bare minimum to stay put, even though you don’t want to.

The feeling of ants crawling up your arm will pass, as they will slowly die off.

The panic attack that's just around the corner will blow by, although it might take an hour of fighting the wave.

You are beautiful, so start acting like it.

Be real with yourself, and remember all the amazing memories you have made.

The people you have met, the life that you have lived.

Remember all these things and use them to counter those thoughts of dread, and allow them to fill your mind over hate.

You are known for being a fighter,

So don’t cop out now, because you have so much to offer the world.

That person who told you that you don’t matter is yourself.

The one placing you automatically in second is your inner demons fighting past rainbows.

Everyone else has noticed the amazing girl you are, so when will you?

I have always struggled with self-image, and poetry allows me to express myself. Getting to write my feelings in this piece has helped me realize my own worth, and I hope it can do the same thing for other people too.
