Forgotten Flavors
I liked our food
We needed it to survive because without it we thought we’d die
It was bittersweet sometimes
Other times it was just sweet
And sometimes it was really nasty
We could swallow the food
Hold it down even if it was nasty
Keep it under wraps and put it in the fridge because we wanted to save some for later
And sometimes we’d just throw it out because we had decided we were done with it
Our love was like that food
There was only one problem
We couldn’t throw it away so easily
No matter how hard I tried to get rid of it, the feeling of our love still lingered
Our love was just too sweet
It was so sweet I can still taste the tanginess of it on my tongue
But it was also spicy
Our love had a spice that took over the sweetness of it
It began to have that bittersweet taste
And eventually we got tired of that taste
It had gotten so bad we started to get cavities
Cavities that would leave us wounded for a very long time
We’d both decided that taste needed to be let go
So we started from scratch once again
New recipe, new taste
Possibly even sweeter
This piece was inspired by someone very close to me and is sort of a reflection of their life. I am so glad I was able to write this because this is now one of my favorite pieces.
