Being A Man

Boys Don’t cry. Man up. Girls are smarter. Pink is for girls. She's too pretty for you. Nice guys finish last. Why can’t you be like him? Don’t be soft. I don’t date short guys. What do you drive? Men can’t feel sadness. He’s not hot enough? Men don’t cry. Men are expected to make sure everyone around them is ok. But People will never check in on them, because we're men and men don’t show emotion. Little do people know there is a statistic that lies  in the shadow of man's heart. Suicide is the single biggest killer for men under 45. 41 a prime number that doesn’t have proper factors, 41 a number that can be divided by 41 or 1. 41 an odd number. 41 is also the percent of men that contemplated suicide and felt they couldn't talk to anyone. This is why we shouldn’t mock men about their feelings. We should try to have them open up before it's too late. Sometimes men go blank. They get into these dark moods. We overthink every decision we make. Men feel used. All they want is a way out, but the feeling never goes away. No matter how much weed they smoke, the amount of pills they shove down their throat, the bud light cans on their floor. The feeling never goes away. But there's hope that one day that feeling will leave. I don’t like to admit how much it happens but men will often give up on hope.  One man dying because of suicide is also another family screaming “stay with me” with endless tears coming down that are engraved in their face. while their voice cracks into pieces, and the continuous beeping coming from the heart monitors sits in your ears forever. Nobody cares until they realize that their Best friend, Brother, Husband, Cousin, Co workers, Boyfriend, your mom's friend, your dad's friend's brother  were suffering inside their own brain. And then you feel like a piece of you was cut out because you didn’t realize one of the closest men in your life was sent  to heaven. Men aren’t as tough as you think. Life sucks and  I’ll never find the words to express the mind of a man but what  I can do is write a poem.
