Purple Hyacinth
A flower of any other hue
Could never be as beautiful as you.
In a field of roses, you stand out,
Your brilliant purple about to sprout.
I struggle to keep my bias in,
For I love you, my little hyacinth.

There’s a reason I chose to use purple hyacinths, and that’s because of the irony of it being the narrator’s favorite flower. Purple hyacinths represent a deep feeling of sadness. The narrator, while talking in an upbeat tone and praising the hyacinth for its color and its ability to stand out, is unaware of what purple hyacinth’s mean.
