Anxiety's Truth
oh my, anxiety
it’s often mistaken for stress, worrisome
however, that’s not quite it at all
stress, it’s a feeling
that can come and go as it’s pleased
with no everlasting impact
anxiety, however
oh dear god, what an illness that is
an illness so bad
almost as if it was crafted by evil
and released into high society
only the ones most pitiful
were caught in the distress and misery
where all senses of fear come out,
you can’t talk to anyone besides yourself,
and somewhere en route
you start to feel comforted
by your thoughts,
your most dire thoughts in truth
there’s an alarm of panic
that’s set to go off at any moment
you may not know when that moment is
but, you’ll know as soon as it hits you
taking your breath away from you,
your heart heavy
with a rapid beat,
scary isn’t it?
it’s a strength unmatched
one that’s exhausting and controlling,
eating you up inside,
leaving you every bit
of fearful and tense,
with only the most delicate memory
of actual freedom

Hi, I'm Sadie! A student of King Kekaulike High School. I've just been published for the first time and that was enough to inspire me to submit again. This poem was originally just supposed to stay in my notes, but I had shown it to some people and I was again encouraged to submit it. This poem means so much to me because it truly does show my mental health and how I feel. I hope you all love it as much as I do!
