The guiding light

Submerged in darkness but flying in light,

Nearly empty of heart, full of meaning,

Speaking of the future without regard to the present,

And so the process toward recovery begins.

Using anything available to see the end,

The glass-like surface of the lake reveals the truth,

And the mirror on the door encompasses the result,

All is found for reflection is the first tool.

What has already happened is set in stone like steel,

Hands to be shaken with the demons of the past,

For what is new must release them from the hole,

The hole that is beginning to resurface by acceptance.

To make a promise with the intention of solemnity,

The aversion to evil like equal poles of magnets,

If all else fails, the promise must remain,

Because abstinence is the filling of the hole.

When finished, I must remain atop,

I have been found and will be fought for,

Recovery was the goal, and I will never leave,

The missing light will forever stay embedded.
