I am from the loud neighborhoods of Detroit, to the nice subtle suburbs

From the captious eating mom to the eat everything dad, I am from the cookouts of ribs and chicken, to the nice fancy restaurants eating steak

I am from the long trips to Target of “I’m only going for one thing”

From the smell of burnt flat irons and scrunchies left everywhere to protect my hair

I am the Black child who stands for black women empowerment

I am the little girl who was clumsy and loved to play outside, and ride her bike until the street lights came on

I am from the frowned upon Champion, to the dripped out Nike

I am from the little girl who took naps in the bottle cabinet, and had a fearless spirit to the teenager who loves to watch Netflix and take naps

Residual comfy foods left in bed, and left with what seems to be undefeatable crumbs in the bed

I am from the 16 years of being the only child to baby toys everywhere and the ceaseless screaming of “Ma, Mama!”

The taste of Cran-Apple juice that just makes me want to turn into a mutated cranberry apple

I am from the calm household of just mom and I, to the ESPN sounds of sports

I am Joselyn or more known as Jos and monster

I like to make people laugh

I have goals to end generational curses

I am Joselyn
