Empty Audience

Forever acting but the stage has warped to the ‘cloud’

Performers are all around

An audience that includes the performer

With a seat gripped in their hand for the perfect view,

An infinite amount of performances stored in the sky

The new-age Hollywood

The ladder of fame starts with a wifi plan rather than an open audition

A generation that was raised by YouTubers, influencers, Tiktokers

Always ready to perform for any audience

Every social media platform holding millions of years worth of content

No barrier, no restriction, no time to review

Maybe there was no stopping the zombiepocalypse of social media

The complete creation of a different form of communication

First with FRED frying not only our eardrums

Catalyst with the world watching as a kid fell into a gorilla enclosure

R.I.P Harambe

Memes being made out of everything

People claim that Shrek is love and Shrek is life

But what does that even mean

Then dazzled by the left shark

None-stop singing ‘what are those’

Damn Daniel got to be on Ellen

And who even is a Big Chungus

Constantly being reformed and dying out before it has even trended

The attention span getting smaller and smaller

The main form of media getting shorter and shorter

Cable Television Episodes: 30 minutes, Youtube videos: 13 minutes,

Instaclips: 1 minute, Tiktoks: 15 seconds

Shortened reality,

Lessening need to show the actual truth

Presenting the full image is obsolete

VSCO, Lightroom, Facetune

All protruding reality

The effects unmatch anything before

The desire to perform and show off the half-truth

All content stored in a fake reality

The cloud promotes a heavenly, bright and hopeful connotation

But the double entendre the cloud is not real

A made-up location for fabricated information

But the audience yells for an encore

The actors live off attention

May it be to even view their own creation

Constantly viewing and performing to be satisfied with what's on the screen

To present a life not lived to an audience that you cannot see

Living for the Instagram photo, tik tok video, or Snapchat story

Posting and replaying

Likes, comments, views

Chasing a cloud nine feeling

Addivitice faceless impersonal numbers,

That carries so much weight that cannot be held

Trying to perceive a self-image that's a facade

A prison of saying, displaying, posting

Every thought, moment, memory

All the time

To everyone

Being one within the audience while also playing a role

Surface level information causing comparisons that cut deep

Forever trapped within the invisible cage

A top a nonexistent cloud

A Zoo animal, never knowing who is watching, lurking, stalking

Waiting for a curtain call that will never come
