Alone on a Starlit Sea

March 20, 2022

the old man groans

as he tugs on the sail

the sound slices through silence

like a palm cleaving still water

little lights giggle

from high up above

the warmth of a love lost

familiar, yet unreachable

the sympathetic breeze

shares the old man’s cigar

savoring the dying embers

until the old man sits alone

alone on a starlit sea

This poem is about the sense of familial comfort that nature can lend to even those who may feel that they are all alone.
