when we were kids

we used to go to the moon

tip our chairs back

feet towards the sky

dad’s headphones on

when we were kids

we used to climb the big tree

long afternoons

spent in its branches

white blossoms clouding our eyes

when we were kids

we used to fly

wait for windy days

and jump off the old bench

holding mom’s umbrella

hoping that one day

it would all be real

one day

the wind would blow just right

and sweep us off our feet

all these years later

we’re still here

spread on the grass

staring up at the sky

thinking of how we fell

and of how we used to be 

kids going to the moon
