Highschool Romance
being with you is
stuck between class periods
long weekends and rainy days in the park
spending time with you is
long looks across a room of friends
hiding in heavy blue velvet curtains
our romance is
sneaking kisses when parents aren’t around
saying goodbye behind the gym
making time for one another is
skirting the mountains of responsibility
staying up way too late
date night is
quiet phone calls
holding hands under a jacket
our love is
considered foolish
considered unimportant
but
i’ll never forget when it felt like
you were the only one who understood
we were fighting the world together
possibly winning
possibly losing
but most definitely together

My name is Evelyn, but I go by Eve. I have moved around a lot in my childhood but I finally feel like I have found a home, and one of the big contributers has been the person this poem, Highschool Romance, is about.
