A Sketchbook is Like A Box?
Sure it is.
Both contain a certain odor
Like the smell of the pages of a new book
No wonder I found it familiar
It draws you in like a hook
Completely overwhelming you
Pages white as snow
As i skim through
I receive a blinding glow
Oh the possibilities of creating something new
Be it a sketch book or within an empty box
The ideas that can come to life within both can never make me blue
…okay I lied, that's not always true
When receiving a new sketchbook, just like a box
Both are empty like a church on a weekday
Pages filled with marks
I try to draw my ideas near the bay
You asked me what was in there?
A mess of botched up ideas
Like opening a gift wrapped box
Expecting to enjoy what’s inside
you tear up and cringe
“I can’t believe I tried”
Do you get how a sketch book is like a box?
The excitement of the endless possibilities is only temporary
Once you grab a pen intended to be put on paper
artist’s block will leave you stationary
Staring into the empty box
