ode to coffee stains
there has been a coffee stain at one point/on just about everything that i call mine/my leather journal/my white wooden desk/my overflowing bookshelf/my favorite sweater/i think of the distinct brown ring/a claiming/my handprint the only way i know how to make it/an accident/but i love it just the same/still/my mother tells me i am a slob/my best friend asks me why i can’t drink coffee/without staining something/my sister tells me its an insult to my books/putting them on a shelf covering in espresso bean colored rings/my father tells me i should start saving up for a new desk/still i love them/they are a fingerprint/red hot branding seared by my laughter/speed of light lips moving over a quick witted phrase/an imposed kind of confidence/some would say i don't have the right to/a judgemental eye/an honest rebuttal/you don’t have to like the taste of no cream or sugar/or the look of a brown ring stained jean cuff/doesn’t change the fact that i do
