Salt
Do you know what it feels like to have salt on your wound?
It stings a lot.
The coarse texture makes it worse
It tears the wound.
It would be oh so painful.
Have you ever felt it psychologically? I have.
It almost feels worse than the actual thing
The people causing this pain don’t even know the wound exists
They make the situation that I’m in worse and worse
They keep talking about it.
They’re laughing at it.
Don’t they know how painful it is?
Probably not, they think it’s funny.
If they do know it’s hurtful, they don’t care.
Do they know what it’s like to lose someone you’ve known your whole life?
If they do it probably isn’t the same.
The memory of them but not the real thing.
Seeing pictures of them.
Seeing other people hurt from what happened.
Waking up and forgetting for a second that they’re gone.
I always tell myself that the wound will heal
But then more salt is added and I’m just suffering all over again.

I recently lost my brother who I was pretty close with to an overdose, this poem is about people making fun of overdoses and how it effects my life. The picture represents Strange Music which is and album that he loved very much and listened to all the time.
