patience
My cousin and I,
Sitting in a brown deer stand up in the air.
Looking out at 3 different fields all around us.
Cold wind hitting our faces.
Sun is almost done setting.
Uncle on the phone as he is driving up to pick us up.
Almost ready to get out of the deer stand.
My uncle talking over the phone says “just sit for a few more minutes’
A 6 point buck walks out,
Large masculine body, small white tail.
BANG.
He runs a few yards,
And he's down.
My first deer.
My cousin high fives me.
We climb down the stand.
My uncle hugging me tightly.
As he knows, I've been waiting for this.
