Grandma’s Cinnamon Buns
With Grandma at the shop
Get up early
The sun’s not yet up
Roll out the dough
Push and stretch and flour
Push and stretch and flour
Slide fingers through warm melted butter all over the dough
Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar
Like sand on a warm beach
Slide the tray into piping hot oven
350 on high
Golden brown on top as the intoxicating aroma wafts
The whole room smells like cinnamon
Like Christmas
Like a fresh bakery
So sweet and so soft
Melt in your mouth
Gooey cinnamon on the inside
Sweet, warm icing from being freshly put on
Happiness that gives a burst of energy
Wanting more after each bite
I am loved
I am secure
