carbon copy

imagine you’re floating in space,

then someone new comes in and takes your place.

they take your gear and they fill your body.

now, you’re floating in space,

waiting for a new day

but soon your lungs deflate

and everything just stops.

you try to take a deep breath

but the air doesn’t fill your soul

because you’re not that person in your body

that person appears to be too foggy

you don’t exactly remember who,

you just know they aren’t you.

so you look around for a new place to go

only to remember there’s nowhere.

as you’re floating in space.

just waiting to evaporate.

because soon they won’t even remember your name

they’ll just know that person in that body

and that person isn’t you,

just and exact carbon copy.

The author's comments:

I wrote this when I didn't feel like myself, when I was this person who I didn't know. I was in a body that was unfamiliar. I want people to feel when they read my work. I want to know I'm reaching people. You are loved. You are perfect.
