THE METAPHOR OF LIFE
How streets glittered with lights at night
Gorgeous mansions, tarred roads, fast cars
The level of respect they command
Them, who visit distant places
5 And survive in a strange environment
The human tendency to revere travellers
The allure of the Wonderland
Its freedoms and promises
Outweighed the desire to be with loved ones
10 Leaving home to seek greener pastures
With great zeal and enthusiasm
A fresh energy to face the new world
On arrival, staring wide-mouthed
At the sight of scenes unaccustomed with their eyes
15 With no professional skills
Having to face the grim reality of City life
Living on the streets and in dilapidated structures in slum areas
They resort to menial jobs
From selling in traffic jams to carting on their heads
20 Working extraordinarily hard for nothing
They wake up each day
To complete this cycle
Hoping for a better future.
