I Matter

Brown skin.

Black hair.

Boy or girl

Women and men

We are all the same

Shouldn't that be enough?

The color of my skin shouldn't define the difference between me and you.

Black lives matter

My life matters

That you can't deny

Get familiar with my name

Know it

Say it with pride.

You tried to silence me

By pushing me off to the side

I'm a victim of police brutality

With an unjustified case

Your name is covered in lies

Just so you can remain free in the streets

The same streets you promise to serve and protect

Though you failed

You failed when you turned your back on me

"When -"

I needed you the most

 I matter

I am human just like you

I bleed the same blood you bleed

Everyday I am forced to live in fear

Wondering if I'll ever make it to see tomorrow

To constantly feel like an outcast

Because of the world I live in

Knowing that society hates me

And sees me less than a human being.

I raise my fist

And roam the streets.

Using my voice the way I know how.

Because they'll listen.

I Matter.
