2022 Traditions Contest: Card Games
It always begins with the deal.
First me,
Then my sister,
Then my mom,
Then my dad
Then—Missy put your phone away!
Then me,
Then my sister,
Then my mom,
Then my dad
Repeat.
A calloused finger lands on the last one
My dad quirks an eyebrow
“The holder of the six extra cards is lucky!”
I look at my sister
Bad luck disguised in good omen.
We are both too scared and too confused
To make benefit out of the opportunity handed to us
Even with playing cards
