Under the bridge
You saw something in me,
looking back I still can't make it out.
Something caught your eye, piqued your interest;
A trick of the light changed the course of my life.
I thought I knew what love was,
I believed in once upon a time.
You knew better than to trust the curiosity that tied us together.
A passing shadow sent us down the rabbit hole;
I got lost and you got found.
Betrayal took its place
where you had once stood.
(What's that saying about the water and the bridge?
I can never seem to remember it.)
I'm okay now,
I didn't find a map but I still found my way out.
Something caught your eye
and you sent me on a wild goose chase
for love that was never there.
It's okay,
it's not like heartbreak is supposed to be fair.
I didn't know who I was then.
A trick of the light
was all I believed it could be.
When you said I was beautiful
I didn't think I deserved the way you looked at me.
I was your everything
(for a second,
for a breath,
for the blink of an eye).
I thought you'd lost your mind,
after all, you were so interested in mine.
