Memory
The memory of a loved one
is a gentile wasteland.
It is vastly scattered,
but unimaginably beautiful.
Imagining a love
you have been deprived
for so long.
It is a petty curse
to hold onto
as much as we do.
We grasp at little straws
and hang onto simplicity
as we traverse the sadness
we have been exposed to.
A memory can destroy
but can also heal.
It can tear us to pieces,
force us to tears,
and somehow
it can fix us
just the same.
Remembering a loss
of those we cherish
brings laughter and tears.
The silent promise
of a simple memory
allows us to feel.
Over and over again.

I wanted to include mostly metaphors in this poem, to refer to memories. This poem was made to highlight the feelings we experience after losing a close friend, family member, or other loved one.
