A Scary Word
Divorce is a scary word.
So many possibilities and questions.
Your world swaying smoothly and then bam!
Asteroids plummeting into the atmosphere.
Or at least that's what six year old me thought.
How scary,
The two people who cared for you,
You thought they were so in love,
Are now never going to be together again.
Two houses,
Two christmases,
Everything just got doubled.
You don’t know it's for the best when you're that little.
Im seventeen now,
I see things a little differently.
My parents are happy,
Both remarried with three more kids.
After a divorce no matter who you are your road splits,
Right down the middle,
You have many things going on, on both paths.
One of my paths is definitely going a little smoother than the other,
But that's just how roads are.
I understand that now.
Splits need to happen.
They both still appreciate each other,
But in a new way.
They are both still my parents,
And patched my world back together from those asteroids,
When I thought it was destroyed.
Divorce is a scary word,
But sometimes it’s what turns your world for the better.
