Highway
there is this one highway
that whenever i drive down
i can see the entirety of new york city
i can grab skyscrapers between the tips of my fingers
wrestle them from the ground
like an ironic game of tug and war
in a world where isaac newton never existed
i can pluck any star from the sparkles littering this black canvas
lasso the moon, admire the soft curves of her silver body
set it up next to my bed
to bear some semblance of a night light
her clouded silhouette towering over the monsters under my bed
i can dive into the ocean below
swim 1000 miles down
to find dory and her friends
summon the water to pull me along
because if moana could, why can’t i
i can split apart the mountains imprinted in the landscape
with a step of my foot
sending ripples through the world that i swear
you could feel the earth quake from california
i can drive at 500 miles per hour
wedge my shoe into the gas pedal,
until i begin to take off,
wheels lifting from this concrete cemetery
there is this one highway
that whenever i drive down
i swear i can see you reading this
in the corner of my eye
