Happy Birthday
When it was your birthday
I made sure to stay awake
Till the clock struck 12
I wanted to be the first to congratulate you
Now we don’t speak
We don’t text or call
We went back to strangers
But this time strangers with memories
Months go by and it’s my birthday now,
The excitement filled me up
Until the clock struck 12
But you weren’t the first to congratulate me
You knew it was my special day
Everyone around you was wishing me happiness
I knew you heard them
But you didn’t say anything to me
I waited around all day expecting the text
Or the call to show that maybe,
Just maybe,
You still cared
But you didn’t
The clock finally passed 12
A couple minutes after my special day was over
And I didn’t get a text all day
That night I took it out on my pillow
I always pretended to not care
But I think I do
I care too much about you
But I’ll always say happy birthday to you, no matter what
I wish you would do the same for me
