Cinematic Orchestra (an acrostic)
There was a house we crafted from
Our joys and desperation. Now, floorboards are splintered from our
Blubbering tears, and window sills are packed
Under layers of our depression. The wood we thought would last forever, no longer
Indestructible. Where the
Land brimmed with discussion, a
Dark hush has fallen from time and tragedy. There was a house that
Accumulated light dropped from our smiles,
Held the delicacy within its walls. That loyal gleam lingered with me, until it
Obligingly left with my deft betrayal.
The silence following my absence
Makes every corner ache. The
Entrails of our life encased in shrouded stillness.

This poem was inspired by the song "To Build A Home" by Cinematic Orchestra. This piece is a response to the song and told from another perspective. The song ends in a very hopeful way, the person coming back home and finding the place still standing, but I had always taken the ending as being very bitter-sweet. I tried to convey this melancholy feeling through the poem.
