September, a month that will always be hard

Breakdowns and lanterns all across my yard

11 days into my birthday month i got the call

9 days i spent by your side, breaking down in the hall

The 20th of september, you took your last breath

6 days later we laid you to rest

The 28th of september, my birthday approached

Even tho my september joy had been poached

Time, such a delicate thing

The weight on my heart feels heavy like rain

I wish i could hear again, the sayings you spoke

Even tho i used to pick fun and make jokes

“We’re horns and we’re tough” you would always say

i'm having a little trouble doing that these days

I was your “buttercup” when my week would start in tears

You swooped in to save the day even if you had a couple beers

It was an honor to be able to see the light in your eye

Even if they are now shining from up in the sky

Your laughter was always music to my ears

The way one sound could wipe away all my fears

“When i was a little girl” no longer sounds okay

Oh how i hope the pain would go away

For a tear falls down my cheek

And ruins the rest of my week

No longer our partner in the competitive game of pool

Or watching you dance around and act like a fool

No more singing on the bed after your dates

Or drinking coffee while we stay up late

A beautiful soul that no one could match

So God took you home to add to his batch

You seen the good in everything, even with one eye

But now it's time for us to say goodbye

It's time to collect your wings

While we cherish all your things

And think about the memories

That we will tell for centuries

My hero, best friend and partner in crime

Oh how i wish i could turn back time

The man that loved me even as I mourn

My angel, Gabriel Allen Horn

The author's comments:

I lost my uncle to a car accident two years ago this month right before my birthday. He was my hero and my partner in crime. So this is a celebration to his life. Hopefully if any of you are going through something like this then I hope this helps you feel less alone.
