Snow Days
White fills the space of backyards that used to be green.
Children bundle up
as they make their way down steep hills.
A white ball of snow is thrown at each other,
and they can’t help but laugh,
as snow covers their whole body.
Kids come inside, happy as can be and
ask their parents for carrots, buttons, gloves, and hats
to put on their snowman
which sits in a pool of water the next day.
Parents sit inside
and enjoy some peace and quiet.
Even in the freezing cold,
smiles fill the faces of these children.
Happy that they don’t have school,
they end the day by drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows in it,
they never want this day to end.

This poem is about kids enjoying snow days as well as parents. I chose to make this poem free verse because I think it's the easiest form of poetry to write, and I enjoy writing free verse poetry as well!
