Where I’m from
I am from the cushioned office chair at my desk, from the plant on my desk and my 2 jars filled with varieties of peanut M&M’s.
I am from the little Red complex with the green door all the way at the end of the street.
I am from a soup called sancocho on really rainy days and the outdoor cookouts in my aunt's backyard every fourth of July, from Sunny D and Juana B and Vaseline and Isabel.
I am from always being the last ones to arrive at any events and buying essentials that are never necessary but we want them.
From “ never open a family member's fridge even if you are related to them” and “never depend on anyone to do anything for you”.
I am from lukewarm christians who don't read the bible but do believe in God.
I'm from the well known Boston where I grew up but all of my family members are dominicans, from the usual dominican dish called “los tres golpes” which is mangu, eggs, and salami, and from rice, beans, and chicken.
From the mom who loves to dance like a snake in every family event , the aunt who catches every small detail on her phone, and the little dog named “BLU” who enjoys playing with everyone but her intentions are misunderstood because everyone thinks she's trying to bite them.
I am from the family pictures on the sandy volcanic beach in Boston when it's above 90 degrees.
