Cement and Rain: Reawakening of Times of Intimate Youth
Tears roll down the sky
Not of joy but of nostalgia.
A certain scent comes to mind, a deliria,
When those tears reach the rock hard ground.
And when the tears reach the ground,
The drums grow louder and louder,
Grand yet silent,
As the meticulous clouds of shades of deep ocean
Reside a feeling of reverence.
The young playing in these tears,
Not minding the tears’ older years,
A distant note lingers within the past
Where the sleeping giant’s times of pondering have last.
The euphoria of the past
An indecisive, tugging sentiment
Not of one that is weak,
Yet a tear rolls down one’s cheek
In looking at the past.
Not of joy nor of grievance,
But an undecided sentiment.

As a high school student, I have been interested in writing poetry as a way to express my thoughts in regards to my outlook on life as well as my personal experiences and sentiments. "Cement and Rain: Reawakening of Times of Intimate Youth" is the first poem that I have ever written. It has been untouched for a few months due to school and figuring out what to do with this poem and many other pieces I have written after this one.
Certain flashbacks can be triggered by something. This poem reflected upon one of my particular flashbacks of me and other kids playing in the rain as a kid. For me, the memory is triggered by the smell of wet cement, hence when it rains.
