Coming Out
It’s supposed to be a big deal
Or at least
That’s what they tell you.
I never “came out.”
Not in the sense
That I sat down with my family and told them I like girls.
I never “came out”
Because I was never in.

You know how, in Love, Simon, they talk about coming out as straight? I've been thinking a lot about that recently. For a while, I was saying that I "came out" when I was 9. But that's not really true. I never "came out" because I was always out. I never pretended to be straight, I was never worried about how my family would react. I'm so grateful for that.
