Summer Shower
After a summer shower
When the clouds part and the sun seeps back onto Earth
I can race the rainbow that stretches across the field
Past the brick cottages
Into the neverland
When I lift a wet log and the bugs halt their tiny hidden revolution
Through the emerald blades, slicing the bottoms of my bare feet
Past the yellow dandelions, roaring of pride
The tree foliage glistens to the heavens
And the birds sing of happy days
The inescapable ambrosial scent of wet dirt
Tickles my nose hairs
Parched flowers thirst finally quenched
Dew droplets clinging to grass blades
Till they collide and fall to their next life
When the crabgrass seizes the opportunity to expand its empire
And the sky bursts into a mesmerizing cyan blue
When the cicadas rattle tales of triumph
Putting fear in the ants beneath
Where the loose branches long to be part of a family again
And the sun slowly reclaims its territory, shining on my red bones
Over yonder
The women stand on the porch
Hand on hip, one on the door
After a summer shower
Hope for a good day and many more
