Ghost of Our Memory
It was the words that flew
effortlessly out of your mouth.
You always knew what to say,
your lies never seemed to run out.
Hidden in the wonders of your thoughts,
pages of your truths came to life.
It was no longer the sweet essence
of your expressions.
You evolved into what I feared most,
you were going ghost.
How did we go from watching the stars,
singing to each other,
promising to love me forever,
to falling apart, disrupting my heart,
and exploiting my feelings?
Our connection was far too ill,
it was time for me to release you.
Now you’re gone,
just like the passing of yesterday.
Gone like the dream you fail to remember.
The only thing that remains
is the memory of you and me.

This piece was an assignment to write about the loss of something or someone. I chose to write about my first heartbreak and the signs leading up to it. Everything starts out great and then everything seems to crash so suddenly. I want people to read this and understand the feeling of losing someone slowly and understanding the pain behind it.
