A black man's curse
His hands are calloused and his nails are shredded
He picks and aches at the marks that his master has embedded
All along his back is raised skin from the whips smack
He lives in constant fear of being attacked
All because his skin is black
But how does the color of a persons skin make them less than someone who is white and full of sin
He fights for justice
and fights for peace
but the aches get worse
So, he admits to defeat.

This is a poem I wrote for my English class when we were discussing poetry and slavery. I was inspired by a picture of a man with burns and scars all along his back from being abused by his slave owner. It breaks my heart so i wrote about it. This is my very first teen ink submission, and I am just testing the waters.
