crossing the street during busy hour

you see the angry drivers

stressed pedestrians

they all are coming home from a busy day of cubicles and capitalism

going home to a family they barely know

white picket fence because thats all a person could want right?

get home and see the same faces everyday but do you really know them?

your children are high right now.

can you tell?

your sons an addict

your daughter just stole a twenty from your room

your wife just gambled her ring away

look at them

look at their faces

lying to you through their teeth

who knew it was so easy right?

you cant be talking though didn’t you just come back from “a business meeting”

how do you think your wife will react?

oh yes right she wont find out

they never do

no but its fine

our friends still think we have the perfect life.

the christmas cards still nice happy and shiny.

the picture perfect family right?

as our own children and neighbors live around us.

living the same life that we did but we’ll never know

because they’ll never tell.

this is a poem about how i see "those" families, the picture perfect life but i grew up the exact opposite of that. plus i know that theres always secrets and lies when your lifes that perfect. also inspired by many years of listening to melanie martinez.
