People hide behind religion

So they can judge with a reason

Not everyone follows the book

Written thousands of years ago

They force someone to become

Something they aren’t

Or they make themselves fearful

To keep their power

When the world becomes a better place

What does that truly mean to everyone in the room

The hate crimes, racism, and white privilege

They add up like raindrops to a muddy puddle

The fact that people wake up in fear

That they might die today is sad

That people think it’s okay to end a human life

Women, they walk out in fear to be alone

“Sit up straight, eat more, eat less, cover-up”

We hold our keys between our fingers for defense

We are blamed because someone

Doesn’t understand respect or personal space

In the end, we are all eggs

Dyed, dark shelled, white shelled

We all have yoke

We have to remember that we are all different

But in the end, we are all human

The author's comments:

This poem is based on the racism, sexism, and homophobia that happens in the world and to show people that it isn't okay because deep down we are all just human.
